After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to 2 disciples who were walking together on the road to Emmaus. They didn’t recognize him, but he helped them see how the Scriptures pointed to himself as the Messiah. Even though we don’t see Jesus and even when it seems like all hope is lost, Jesus is still at work in our lives!
Jesus dying on the cross is difficult to tell children. But his death and resurrection is the truth and hope of our faith. Kids need to know that Jesus willingly sacrificed his life for us so our sins can be forgiven. And also the excitement and joy that he did not stay dead, but rose again so we can have eternal life!
Jesus was about to endure a painful death and the weight of the sins of the world. His closest friends let down, betrayed him and abandoned him. This story describes the sorrow that Jesus felt and his faithfulness to God’s will. We are all weak at times, but Jesus is strong!
Jesus got up at the passover meal to wash his disciples feet. By doing the job of a servant, he was demonstrating that he came to be a servant and wash the world of their sins. Only Jesus can offer us that forgiveness!
When the disciples tried to stop people from bringing their babies to Jesus, he told them to let the children come to him! Jesus used that moment to remind them that the kingdom of heaven belongs those who come to God like children. We want our children to remember that we’re as dependent on God as a baby is on it’s mother!
The people of Jericho never imagined that Jesus would choose to hang out with someone like Zacchaeus. Jesus loves everyone and came so that all of us can know God. Because of Jesus, Zacchaeus went from being a selfish cheat to being a generous friend of Jesus!
Jesus encountered a woman at Jacob’s well. Her soul was thirsty and she had tried to quench that thirst with other things. Just as our bodies need water to sustain it, we all have a thirst that can only be satisfied by the Spirit of God!
Nicodemus came to find Jesus at night, and Jesus says a very surprising thing to him. Nicodemus is taken aback that he needs to be born again to see the kingdom of God! This lesson helps to explain why we need to be born again and what that means.
Jesus called Jairus to have faith at a time when it seemed like all hope was lost. Only Jesus can bring newness of life. He did so for Jairus’s daughter and he does so for each and every person who puts their faith in him!
