Luke 24: 36–49; John 20: 24–29
Most people adhere to the old saying that says: “seeing is believing”. The Bible calls us to a different kind of faith. Thomas had to see it for himself in order to believe, but Jesus emphasized the importance of believing without seeing. We want the children to walk away knowing that, even if we can’t see him, Jesus is alive and he is with us!
Matthew 27:27 – 28:10
Jesus dying on the cross is difficult to tell children. But his death and resurrection is the truth and hope of our faith. Kids need to know that Jesus willingly sacrificed his life for us so our sins can be forgiven. And also the excitement and joy that he did not stay dead, but rose again so we can have eternal life!
Matthew 26.36-56
Jesus was about to endure a painful death and the weight of the sins of the world. His closest friends let down, betrayed him and abandoned him. This story describes the sorrow that Jesus felt and his faithfulness to God’s will. We are all weak at times, but Jesus is strong!
John 13.1-20
Jesus got up at the passover meal to wash his disciples feet. By doing the job of a servant, he was demonstrating that he came to be a servant and wash the world of their sins. Only Jesus can offer us that forgiveness!
Luke 18.15-17
When the disciples tried to stop people from bringing their babies to Jesus, he told them to let the children come to him! Jesus used that moment to remind them that the kingdom of heaven belongs those who come to God like children. Jesus called Jairus to have faith at a time when it seemed like all hope was lost. Only Jesus can bring newness of life. He did so for Jairus’s daughter and he does so for each and every person who puts their faith in him!

By walking on water Jesus demonstrates to his disciples that he has power over nature! It causes his disciples to recognize that he is the Son of God and they spontaneously worship him. Peter’s attempt to walk out to Jesus reminds us that we’re only human, but that if we obey him and keep our eyes fixed on him as the Son of God then he will empower us to follow him. When a large crowd was gathered around Jesus in a remote place, a boy who had five barley loaves and two fish, made them available to Jesus.
