David and Goliath

1 Samuel 17

David’s fearless trust in the LORD was first demonstrated in him taking on the bear and the lion. When it came to Goliath he wasn’t shaken because he had seen God’s faithfulness. He knew that God had good plans for the nation of Israel, and that God was not going to let a Philistine stand in his way! Continue reading → David and Goliath

Samuel Anoints David

1 Samuel 16.1-13

We’ve taught this lesson before from the perspective of trusting God’s promises. Another significant observation of this story is that God cared about what was going on in David’s heart. Deborah the Judge

Judges 4

Deborah was a wise and faithful judge! When Deborah heard from God that Barak should attack the Canaanite army, he refused to go unless she went as well. Judges 16:4-31

Samson was called to be devoted to God in a unique way. Instead, Samson disobeyed God and his parents, which lead to him being tricked by Delilah and captured by the Philistines. Even though he had done wrong, God still allowed Samson to repent. True repentance brings us back to God!

Gideon’s 300 Men

Judges 7

Gideon was the least important person, in the least important family, in the least important tribe. God called this weak man to defend the Israelites against an enemy that was as numerous as locusts! The best part though is that God didn’t allow Gideon to rely on himself, nor the army he gathered. God wants us to depend on him in the same way that Gideon discovered. Joshua called to be Strong and Courageous

Joshua 1:1-9

Joshua served as a faithful assistant to Moses for many years. When Moses died, God gave Joshua the special task of leading Israel into the Promised Land! God’s constant reminder to Joshua was to be strong and courageous because God was with him. Whatever God calls us to, we know that we also have God’s presence because of Jesus’ work on the cross.
